Preparing statements for a risk review
Incomplete years produce incomplete drawdowns. A short checklist for gathering custodian papers before your briefing call.
Most delays in a risk review come from missing periods, not from clever mathematics. If you plan to commission work with us — or with any independent reviewer — the following preparation saves weeks.
Gather by custodian
- Year-end statements for each account in scope
- Interim valuations covering the troughs you remember (March 2020, autumn 2022, and any personal shock dates)
- Transaction history for large lodgements, withdrawals, and transfers between brokers
- For private holdings: latest valuation memo, currency, and capital call or distribution notices
Align the entities
Trustees sometimes send one trust’s papers and omit the personal dealing account that sits emotionally in the same “family pot.” Decide early whether the review covers legal entities separately or a consolidated economic view. Both are valid; mixing them without saying so is not.
Note what you cannot get
Overseas custodians and old wrappers may not yield daily history. Tell us at the briefing. We would rather mark a gap in the drawdown path than invent continuity.
When you are ready, write to the practice with the engagement type and which custodians are involved. We will confirm what to upload securely after scope is agreed.
