About Dataquery Base

A London practice devoted to reading portfolio risk through the lens of drawdowns — how deep they ran, how long recovery took, and what that implies for the book you hold now.

Quiet meeting room at a London professional practice

Origin

Dataquery Base grew from years of sitting with private ledgers after sharp market turns — moments when index commentary felt thin beside the question clients actually asked: how bad was it in my book, and why? We set up in the City so that work could stay close to custodians, advisers, and the trustees who need clear papers for meetings.

What we stand for

  • Drawdowns before decoration — we start with peak-to-trough loss and recovery, then work outward to themes and concentrations.
  • Written clarity — findings are meant to be read aloud in a committee, not locked inside a slide deck no one keeps.
  • Independence of scope — we are paid for analysis, not for product placement or assets under management.
  • Respect for existing relationships — we work alongside your adviser and manager; we do not try to replace them.

Working approach

Most engagements begin with a short briefing at Level 13, 84 Cheapside, London EC2V 6AX, or by video if you prefer. We agree the look-back period, the entities in scope, and the questions that matter for the next decision. Analysis follows only after statements are complete enough to trust the reconstruction.

People & expertise

Our analysts come from buy-side risk and multi-asset research backgrounds, with practical experience reconstructing client books through 2008, 2020, and the 2022 rates shock. We are not a bank and we do not hold client money. Where a question requires regulated advice, we say so and point you back to your authorised firm.

Community

We occasionally host small roundtables for family office principals and trustees on drawdown literacy — invitation-only evenings in the City, never sales theatres. If that interest fits your work, mention it when you write to us.
